ServiceNow MFA Enforcement
In the Yokohama release, ServiceNow will be enforcing multifactor authentication (MFA) as a default security measure for all internal users who log on without single sign-on (SSO). This is part of ServiceNow’s ongoing commitment to enhance the security of customer accounts and protect their valuable data from unauthorized access.
ServiceNow have confirmed that the MFA will not be mandated for API connectivity at this time, they have said;
Is MFA required for API authentication?
No. From Yokohama or a later release, MFA is only required for the username and password-based interactive user logins. This means API authentication with basic auth with work without requiring MFA. It’s recommended to customers use alternative secure API authentication methods such as OAuth or TLS.
Please see the following link for more information on the new MFA enforcement policy in Yokohama.
MFA Impact on Automation Integration
Whilst MFA has not been mandated by ServiceNow, it is likely that many Administrators will decide to enforce MFA for all ServiceNow interaction including via the API.
The latest versions of our Modern REST API Orchestrator Integration Packs and the Integration Module for Azure Automation all support OAuth authentication and will work where MFA has been applied.
If you use our Legacy SOAP Integration Pack variants these will not work with MFA as the ServiceNow API does not support OAuth. In this case you will need to move to the REST Integration Pack variants if MFA support is required.
Please contact us if you want more information or to discuss whether you might be affected by the implementation of MFA in ServiceNow Yokohama.
